These Mushroom and Swiss Turkey Burgers are the best for grilling season! Sauteed mushrooms and onions stuffed into the ground turkey meat makes these burgers insanely juicy and flavorful. Topped off with caramelized onions and mushrooms and melted swiss cheese make for the most mouth watering flavor explosion!
Turkey burgers without any added ingredients can be dry, boring, and bland. That’s why these Mushroom and Swiss Turkey Burgers are absolutely to die for! The combination of ground turkey with caramelized onions and mushrooms and ooey gooey swiss cheese is a flavor powerhouse!
These burgers are so juicy and flavorful you won’t even miss the fact that they’re not made with ground beef. Ground turkey is a very lean source of meat that’s high in protein, low in fat, and leaves you feeling full and satisfied. Since it is a very lean meat, it tends to dry out if cooked plain with no added ingredients. By adding in the sauteed veggies to the burger mix, this allows the flavors to mix together and ultimately give you a juicer burger.
Cooking the Perfect Juicy Turkey Burger:
Cooking these burgers is easy peasy. If you have a grill, just slap ‘em on there for 5-7 minutes per side until cooked through to a temperature of 165° F. If you’re cooking them on a skillet, heat 2 tbsp of olive oil on medium-high heat and cook approximately 5-7 minutes each side until that 165° F temperature is reached. If you don’t have a food thermometer, you can lightly slit the burger to see if it is still pink inside - try to aim for minimal pinkness.

What Ingredients are Needed for Mushroom and Swiss Turkey Burgers?
Ground Turkey: Naturally lower in fat than ground beef, ground turkey is a heart-healthy choice and provides about 30g of protein per serving for this recipe.
Mushrooms: Sauteed baby bella mushrooms added into our burgers and used as a topping as well for extra shrooms!
Onion: Caramelized yellow onion for topping and to be added into the turkey burger mixture.
Swiss Cheese: Sliced swiss cheese to top onto the burgers right before they’re finished cooking.
Worcestershire Sauce: For added flavor in our burger mixture.
Burger Buns: Any buns you like. I love whole wheat buns or sesame seed buns.
Chicken Broth: To help caramelize the onions and mushrooms.
Garlic Powder
Olive Oil

How to Make Mushroom and Swiss Turkey Burgers
Prep the Burgers: Chop ¼ of a medium onion into finely diced pieces. Chop ½ cup of mushrooms into finely diced pieces. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, saute the finely chopped onions and mushrooms with 1 tbsp of olive oil until translucent and tender, approximately 5 minutes.
In a large bowl, add the ground turkey, sauteed onions and mushrooms, worcestershire sauce, and garlic powder. Fold ingredients together until combined.
Using your hands, form into 4 evenly sized burger patties.
Cook the Burgers: Add 2 tbsp of olive oil to your skillet, heat to medium-high, and add your burgers. (If using a grill, heat to 450° F).
Cook for 5-7 minutes on one side. Cover with a lid so the burgers cook through. Flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes, add the sliced swiss cheese and cook another 1-2 minutes until cheese melts and burgers are cooked through. (If using a grill, cook each burger 5-7 minutes each side, following the same steps for adding the cheese).
Make the Toppings: Slice ½ medium onion into thin round strips and slice the remaining ½ cup of mushrooms. In a small skillet, saute the sliced onions and mushrooms over medium heat with the broth. Saute, uncovered, for approximately 5-7 minutes until onions become translucent and caramelized.
Assemble: Serve on a toasted bun with caramelized onions and mushrooms on top!
