The sibling to pigs in a blanket you never knew existed but will forever love after you give this recipe a try!
Move over pigs in a blanket, there’s a new meat wrapped in dough that’s going to give you a run for your money!
I’m one of those weird people who has never liked a hot dog (pause for reaction). I know, I know… it’s unusual, but don’t give up on me quite yet! I’ve always loved the pigs in a blanket concept, so I figured why not try it with meatballs?!
A huge reason why the pigs in a blanket recipe is so beloved is partly due to its simplicity and ease of using pre-made ingredients like mini hotdogs and pre-made dough. In an effort to keep things on the same easy level, we’re going to use pre-made frozen meatballs and Pillsbury pizza dough.
If my wacky announcement of hating hot dogs hasn’t scared you away yet, I hope you give this delicious meatballs in a blanket recipe a try!
What Ingredients are Needed for Meatballs in a Blanket?
Pillsbury Dough: I used Pillsbury’s refrigerated pizza crust dough. Break it open, roll it out, and slice into 15 equal pieces.
Meatballs: This is meant to be a super easy, no fuss appetizer so we’re using frozen meatballs! I love the Italian Style ones from Trader Joe’s and eat them on the reg. Use whichever brand you prefer, just make sure to thaw them beforehand.
Mozzarella Cheese: I used mini mozzarella balls for ease and simplicity!
Pizza Sauce: Pizza or marinara sauce dipping is absolutely essential!

How to Make Meatballs in a Blanket
Prep: Preheat the oven to 400° F, line a baking sheet with parchment paper, and lightly spray with oil.
Assemble: Unroll the dough onto a clean work surface and cut into 15 equal slices.
Cut thawed meatballs in half and place one half, cut side down, onto each dough square.
Press one mini mozzarella ball onto each meatball.
Roll: Fold the four corners of each dough square up and over the meatball and mozzarella ball. Form into a ball using your hands.
