Chocolate Peanut Butter Granola

    Super chocolatey and peanut-buttery granola that’s the perfect topping for your morning yogurt bowl, smoothie bowl, or simply just with a bowl of milk!


    In an effort to buy less processed foods, I tested out this chocolate peanut butter granola recipe. My tried and true favorite granola is the Peanut Butter Protein Granola from Trader Joe’s. Usually I add chocolate protein powder to my yogurt bowl and top it off with this peanut butter granola, so I figured I’d combine my two true loves - chocolate and peanut butter - into one delicious granola recipe!

    What Ingredients are Needed for Chocolate Peanut Butter Granola?

    Rolled Oats: Old fashioned rolled oats, not quick or steel cut.

    Cocoa Powder: Unsweetened cocoa powder or can swap for cacao powder.

    Peanut Butter: Creamy, natural peanut butter works best for this recipe. 

    Maple Syrup: To sweeten the granola.

    Vanilla: To enhance the flavors.

    Peanuts: Unsalted, roasted peanuts for some extra crunch.

    How to Make Chocolate Peanut Butter Granola

    Make the Chocolate Peanut Butter Mixture: Add peanut butter, vanilla, maple syrup, salt, and cocoa powder to a small saucepan and whisk until fully combined. 

    Coat the Oats: Add the rolled oats and chopped peanuts to a large bowl and coat with the chocolate peanut butter mixture. Stir with a spatula until the oats are fully coated.

    Bake the Granola: Bake in a preheated oven at 325° F for 25-30 minutes. Wait until completely cooled to break into chunks. Serve over your favorite yogurt, alongside your milk of choice, or on its own as a yummy snack!

    Ingredients:

    • 4 cups, rolled oats (320g)
    • ½ cup, creamy unsalted peanut butter (128g)
    • ½ cup, maple syrup (120ml)
    • ½ cup, unsweetened cocoa powder (40g) 
    • 1 tsp, vanilla extract (5g)
    • ¼ tsp, salt 
    • ½ cup, peanuts, roughly chopped (112g)

    Directions:

    1. Preheat the oven to 325° F and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
    2. In a small saucepan over medium heat, add the peanut butter, maple syrup, cocoa powder, salt, and vanilla and whisk together until all ingredients are fully combined. 
    3. In a large bowl, add the rolled oats and chopped peanuts. Coat with the chocolate peanut butter mixture. Stir for a few minutes until the oats are fully coated. 
    4. Spread oats into an even layer onto the prepared baking tray. Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes*. 
    5. Remove from the oven and let it cool completely before breaking into chunks. 
    6. Add granola chunks to an airtight container top with any extra peanuts or chocolate chips. Seal the lid and shake the granola so it’s mixed well.
    7. Store in an airtight container for up to two weeks.
    Notes:
    1. If gluten-free, use certified-gluten free oats!
    2. *Check your granola frequently to make sure it’s not overcooking.
