Fresh greens and berries tossed with some blue cheese and nuts for a healthy, delicious, and light summer salad!
Nope this isn’t a Backstreet Boys salad…although if someone wants to send them the recipe and they like it… who knows it could be just as big of a sensation as them!
All joking aside, this salad is perfect for the summer. Filled with fresh blueberries and blackberries (hence the name of the salad) and paired with fresh greens for a light and satisfying dish.
How Do You Serve a Black and Blue Salad?
- It’s great on its own if you’re looking for something quick and light to eat
- Pair it with some protein like grilled chicken, shrimp, salmon, or steak! (I added some frozen shrimp from Trader Joe’s and had it as my lunch!)
- It’s a great side dish for a summer dinner

What Ingredients are Needed for Black and Blue Salad?
Baby Spinach: Fresh spinach leaves. I like to chop them up a bit, something about eating the entire leaf at once doesn’t do it for me…but feel free to leave them whole.
Arugula: Baby arugula, roughly chopped and tossed with the spinach.
Blueberries: Fresh blueberries, don’t forget to wash them!
Blackberries: Fresh blackberries, washed and chopped in half.
Walnuts: Roughly chopped.
Blue Cheese: The funkiness of the blue cheese really compliments the sweetness of the berries.
Olive Oil: For our homemade dressing.
Lemon Juice: For our homemade dressing.

How to Make Black and Blue Salad
Prep the Ingredients: Roughly chop the spinach, arugula, and walnuts. If your blackberries are large, cut them in half. Lightly crumble the blue cheese, either with your hands or a cheese grater.
Make the Dressing: For simplicity and ease, whisk together lemon juice and olive oil for a light dressing.
Toss the Salad: Add all the prepped ingredients to a large serving bowl and toss to combine. Drizzle the homemade dressing on top, serve immediately*, and enjoy!
